The practice of an individual seeking guidance and insight from a more spiritually mature person.
Spiritual Direction is a time-honored practice in the Christian tradition, whereby an individual, often referred to as the "directee," seeks guidance and insight from a more spiritually mature person, the "spiritual director."
For a Christian missionary, engaging in Spiritual Direction can provide invaluable support on their vocational journey. The process involves intentional one-on-one sessions where the missionary can reflect on their experiences, discern God's movements in their life, and navigate challenges of cross-cultural ministry.
Unlike counseling or mentoring, the emphasis is on deepening one's relationship with God and understanding His guidance. The spiritual director serves as a listening, prayerful companion, facilitating the missionary's awareness of the Holy Spirit's work. Through this relational dynamic, missionaries can gain clarity, experience spiritual refreshment, and be better equipped to serve in their mission field with renewed purpose and passion.
